Ocean Boy, Forest Pixie, Taco Queen, Leaf Lady, and Super Recycling Woman

Room 9 Enviro Kids, Monkey Boy, Butterfly Girl and Bush Boys!

World Environment Day

Today is World Environment Day. Many of us dressed up in environment colours or recycled things. We talked about the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We also created a Mind Map of all the things we are doing, or could do, in our homes, school and community which help the environment and show we are thinking about sustainability.

Reduce
:
This means you reduce the amount of materials you use. For example, if you use both sides of a piece of paper, you are reducing the amount of pages you need.

Reuse:
This means you use material over again, either for the same purpose or for something new. For example an icecream container might be reused as a container for crayons.

Recycle
:
This means you use material over again to make a new product. For example, old newspapers are recycled when they are made into new paper products.

How wonderful you all look. I was so pleased to see so many kids and teachers took part in environmental day by dressing up. We all need to remember about the r's and play our part in keeping our community tidy and not waste so much. It's just amazing how much rubbish we generate at our school. John does a fantastic job every day picking up rubbish, emptying bins, checking lights and heaters are off when they are not needed and making sure taps are not leaking and wasting valuable water. Thanks for playing your part by dressing up, now we need to continue this and help our Enviroteam around our school. Lets be proactive. What can you do to help? Maybe you could post some of your ideas on this blog with some pictures of Room 9 carrying out a task. I'll keep popping in every now and again to see how the blog is going. Well done everyone.
